“Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counselors, ‘Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?’ They answered and said unto the king, ‘True, O king.’ He answered and said, ‘Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.'” – Daniel 3:24-25

Have you ever felt like you were walking through the fire alone?

There are points on our journey, when the trails and difficulties come, we can feel all alone in the fight, like God has left us to our own devises. We cry out to Him, but there is no reply.

Little do we know, this is when He is closest to us.

In the Bible, it is stated multiple times, once in Deuteronomy 31:6,

“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”

And repeated in Hebrews 13:5b,

“…For He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Unlike their fellow Hebrews who caved to the will of King Nebuchadnezzar, who wanted everyone to bow to his golden image, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood their ground and held onto their faith in the One True God. Even when the king threatened to throw them into the fiery furnace, they still held strong, saying in Daniel 3:16-18,

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

That is faith.

Sure enough, the Lord was there with them in the midst of the flames and kept them from harm.

No matter your circumstances, the Lord will be with you every step of the way, even in the difficult times. Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, we too can find comfort in the fact that the Father has the power to deliver us from every trial. However, whether singed, consumed, or untouched, we must trust in Him and know that He is allowing us to walk through the fire for a reason.

I know it’s not easy, but that is the point of faith, it’s not easy. That is why He brings us through the fire, to test and grow our faith in Him.

I want to leave you with a famous and familiar poem that illustrates the Father’s love and continued faithfulness on the journey: Footprints in the Sand. I hope the Lord will encourage you today through its words.

God Bless!

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”
