In today’s society, we are constantly going and doing, never stopping to take a moment to be still. From soccer practice, to work, to school, even at home, we are always on the move, having to do this now or that now. We have become so obsessed with having to always be doing something that we never stop, because, if we do, we would be considered “lazy” and “not cool”.

This is not the case.

As a chronic pain warrior, have you found yourself in a lull, as though time seems to have slowed around you? Do you feel like the world is passing you by while you, and others like you, are left to fend for yourselves? Do you see your friends and colleagues pressing forward in life while you seem to be stuck in limbo?

Take a deep breath. Breathe. 

You have been given the opportunity that many a “normal” person will never see in the midst of their busy schedules. Despite living in agonizing pain on a daily basis, you have a chance to look beyond that and explore something people only dream of discovering.

Peace.

John O’Donohue once said,

“Let there be an opening into the quiet that lies beneath the chaos, where you find peace you did not think possible see what shimmers within the storm.”

He eludes to the fact that if we seek out this peace beneath the rushing waves of life, we will be able to see and experience life in an entirely radically different way.

The key is slowing down.

Sadly, one of the best ways to do this is through pain, something we as chronic pain warriors already endure.

The busier we get, the worse the pain becomes.

Today, allow yourself to take a break from the rushing world around you and take a moment to explore life from below the waves.
