“Doesn’t matter what the press says, doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say, doesn’t matter if the whole country decides something wrong is right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world, ‘No, you move!'” -Captain America
One of the greatest heroes of all time, Captain America (AKA Steve Rodgers) has been an all time favorite of mine. I have always admired that he never backs down from what is right. We witness this first hand in both the movie Captain America: Civil War and the graphic novel Marvel’s Civil War, where, after a major event, every superhero is required to be registered and work for the government. Steve sees this as limiting his ability to help those in need, stating,
“…What if there’s somewhere we need to go and they don’t let us? We may not be perfect but the safest hands are still our own.”
And so, a series of debates turned into all-out war as Cap and several other heroes fought to preserve their rights, even to the point of fighting his own friend, Tony Stark (Iron Man).
In this day in age, it can be very hard to stand for what you believe. At times, your voice is drowned out by so many others that it almost seems pointless to carry on with your stance. But, look to the example of Captain America.
Steve Rodgers stood his ground against the tide of adversity, even to the point of starting a war with his fellow heroes. Yet, he maintained his footing.
Today, plant your feet in the “river of truth”, for you are not alone. If you stand firm on what God says is right, then He will never leave your side, arming you with the tools you will need to continue to hold fast on His truths.
